At today's meetup we welcomed back Stefan from Italy and had healthy, gluten free Indian snacks provided by ZOUQ. Our twitter and facebook announced topic was about apps that help with productivity. We didn't really get to it til the very last few minutes of our meetup. Christine shared about sleep deprivation, dealing with kids anxiety and nightmares and got some advice on placebos, power naps, how to efficiently fight monsters, discipline, and a reminder on how to not worry about a new thing every 6 months. Kerry just came back from an Editor's conference and is ready to take on some new clients. Raeann finally launched her ecommerce site for customized greeting cards and announcements, just in time for the Holidays at Rosita Designs. She is also looking for trunk show hosts for her Noonday Collection. Kelly is looking for local Non Profits hiring for Corporate Fundraising and trains for a Half Marathon, running in shoes from West Seattle Runners sold by Clark. Stefan still embraces 3 hour lunches and good cappuccino from his recent trip to Italy. Btw, ask Clark about his newest obsession 'Whiskey Coffee'. Ben reported on a successful first West Seattle Hack Night with about 15 attendees and more then 50 people on the meetup group. He recently learnt a lot about peer programming at a workshop, still looks for a Developer position and some local Non-Profits that would like some technical help from the Hack Night group. We suggested a couple of cool features the Office Junction would use, like changing art work a la Bill Gates's house, twitter-controlled coffee maker, wi fi sign up, a light switch to show the space is open, etc. Our meetup host Clark brainstormed about all the possibilities and life changes a new job might bring him. He is a passionate runner, great sales person, motivator, likes bags, shoes, swag, but prefers to work in shorts with his signature wild hair. A twitter post suggested we should create a podcast at our meetups. We talked about this briefly. Our meetups are part business networking, part support group. For productivity apps we shared evernote, todo, wunderlist, focusboosterapp, Miss Cortana (Microsoft's Siri), Ben's own app, google calendar, Kelly's request to save an email as calendar entry/todo, pomodoro and the good old paper calendar. Meetup was done at 1.40 pm. Went overtime for the first time due to communal support, lots of laughter, tears of joy and hilarious side stories. You think we are exaggerating? Come and see it for yourself at our next meetup on Wednesday, December 3rd. We'll take a break from meetup next week. We, members, friends & family are currently looking for - an entry level developer position (full time), - a Non-Profit Corporate Fundraiser (full time), - a Sales/PM/General Manager job (day time), also some new clients for editing work and trunk show hosts. If you hear something, please let us know.

Stuffmapper Benjie, Conde Naste Eric, Running Coach Clark, Office Junction Christine, Tech Meetup Ben, and first timer Domestic Violence lawyer Tracy met around the big black table.
Clark guided us through a round of introductions. We started with Tracy, living on Vashon, moved here this summer, just received her state license, helping with divorce, custody, domestic violence and all family law cases. If you need help, let us know and we'll connect you. Benjie shared about the ups and downs of running his start up stuffmapper.com and also a bit about his music ventures. Eric brought very delicious home made gluten free banana bread and shared about his work as travel ombudsman, as such he is also blogging on cntraveler.com. Ben reported on his job search doing intensive networking in Seattle's tech world, hosting the West Seattle Hack Night next Tuesday at the OJ. If you have a cool project or an entry level programmer position for a great, reliable person, let us know. Christine was on her way out early to join the Seattle Angel Conference at the HUB, but told everyone about the Office Junction, stuffmapper, the Bee Garden and Fairmount Park Elementary, her current 4 projects. Eric had to leave 45 min into our meeting. He got offered a free hair cut from our friendly neighbors at EcoBeauty SalonSpa while Christine kept munching on his great banana bread. Also thanks to Cindi, the heart and soul of Morgan Junction who brought in some pastries for us right before Meetup. How can you not LOVE Coworking, reading this? :-) |
