Drew, Christine, Eric, Stefan, Kerrie, Tracy and Mercedes attended our Coworking Meetup.
We started out with some stories about our kids. Drew shared how much fun it is to live with a teenager and Christine on how a grade schooler can outsmart you and the struggle how to parent and control your kids media consumption without facing a huge power struggle on a daily basis and to ensure they get enough exercise and off-screen experiences. Especially as media addiction is an epidemic and we parents role model media use by constantly checking our phones and spending more time before a screen then engaging in one on one conversations. Tracy found an interesting study to our discussion: http://cir.ca/story/kids-media-use-doesnt-concern-parents Stefan recommended redirecting media enthusiastic kids by taking apart electronics and building cool stuff (aka Makers Fair and Jigsaw Renaissance and Tool Library Fixer Club). Eric talked about his passion for acting. Kerrie talked about her academic editing, looking for projects and we talked about pro and cons of 'passive' writing and learnt that screenplays are never 'passive', but 'passive' works great to take out emotions in written conversations. As long as it's not 'passive aggressive', we agreed. ;-) Stefan chimed in on life with a teenager and how to handle a lot of work at once and how to spread projects evenly over the year to not experience peaks and dry periods. Tracy shared her experiences about her home remodeling and getting all ducks in a row to get it started, dealing with contractors and how it feels to live out of the basement with a family of 4. For example, opening the garage door to check the weather for what to wear in the morning. Also prepping for a big event for her Fine Chocolate non-profit end of the month. Mercedes is in the process to persue her passion combining theater with management consulting to cultivate good business practices. We all tried to understand and define the details of her idea and core of business. It was inspiring and Tracy helped with some HR insides. We finished the meetup at 1.15 pm.

Thursday evening at 6.30 pm six of our Office Junction members participated in a gluten free, diary free cooking class by Bridget from Full Life Nutrition and Theresa from Thrive Within. We prepared a 3 course dinner together. First we 'massaged' kale. We cut veggies for the Quinoa Bean Salad and rolled chopped fruit and nut bits in coconut flakes and cinnamon. We also had some wine - and as usually laughed a lot. |
